History of Germany
Centuries of fights for power in Europe led to the devastating World Wars I and II which Germany finally lost. The country was occupied by the Allies and two German states were formed at the beginning of the Cold War. These were unified and the Berlin Wall was demolished in 1990 after the fall of the Soviet Union. Germany is now the leading economy and the largest country of the European Union.
