Flying on the Cheap to Columbia and South America
Have you thought about possibly heading down to the Southern Hemisphere for a bit of sightseeing? Perhaps there's a specific destination you have in mind, like maybe Columbia, but you're worried about the expense. If you have, you're not alone. In fact, there are a lot people who wonder how to go about flying on the cheap to Columbia and South America, these days.

Why Columbia, and why South America? Flying to either Columbia specifically or South America in general can be an attractive proposition these days. With the cost of jet fuel falling along with every drop in the price of a barrel of oil, the idea of finding a cheap airline excursion fare or two is becoming an increasingly achievable goal, lately. Besides, who wouldn't want to see Brazil or Argentina while being down there?

Cheap tickets can be had, for a price. If the idea of putting a travel package together and then going off to tour Columbia - and maybe neighboring Peru or Ecuador, while you're at it - sounds intriguing, there are a few things to keep in mind, one of them being that the better you plan, the cheaper you can fly.

Planning is everything. Scoring cheap tickets to Columbia, maybe, or anywhere else in South America is a matter of planning what it is you need and where it is you want to go once you get there. There are a large number of discount travel agencies who can help you with the sightseeing part. Plus, they'll be more than willing to find you the tickets themselves. Just remember, they tack on a commission which the airlines won't cover.but which you will.

Use the power of the internet. It used to be that in the old days, before the rise of the Internet, the only people that could find you the best price for a flight to almost any destination were the people that worked for the travel agencies, or (sometimes) the airline reservations and ticketing agents. Now, with so many airline ticket and travel sites on the Net, you have complete access to all the prices that every scheduled airline charges for a ticket at any given time, including for those to Columbia or South America.

Flexibility can be your best friend. If you're willing to be flexible on travel dates on both ends of the trip, you can score some amazingly cheap tickets. Taking super-early flights (called "red eyes") can reduce the overall price of your ticket by 20 to 25 percent in many cases.

Mid-week travel is still the cheapest. Airlines always have more empty seats in the Tuesday through Thursday block than at any other time, and they're willing on many occasions to let them go at a substantial discount just to put some rear-ends into an otherwise empty flying chair.

Keep everything in mind when flying on the cheap. Columbia and South America in general are more accessible than ever before. This is due to the power of the Internet, which can give anybody a close-up on the airline ticket buying and selling business. And always keep in mind that he who plans best will win out in the end.
