A Guide to Darling Harbour in Sydney, Australia
Visitors to Darling Harbour in Sydney, Australia, who arrive in cars, can park in the underground parking station outside Darling Harbour. A monorail is available from the car park which gives a bird’s eye view of the area. The other modes of transport are the ferry or water taxi which dock at the piers and jetties.

Darling Harbour used to be a dockside area and is now a popular tourist site. It has been developed in to a large, well known exhibition and convention center which offers comprehensive services for large exhibitions and trade fairs.

Some of the major attractions around the Darling Harbour include the largest cinema screen in the country at the Imax Theatre, the Sydney Aquarium, the National Maritime Museum, the Powerhouse Museum, the Chinese Garden of Friendship, the Harbourside Shopping Centre, and the Sydney Wildlife World. Apart from these the area itself has a quaint charm worth visiting on foot.

The Imax Theatre has a giant movie screen that is more than eight stories high and screens high definition movies in the 75mm format. It is a popular spot for movie lovers who love to watch movies on a larger than life scale. The Sydney Aquarium is one of the largest in the world; it has over 5000 Australian fish exhibited in their natural environment. Visitors get the opportunity to ‘walk on the floor of the ocean’. This is the ideal place to visit for those who love the marine world. The Chinese Garden of Friendship was designed by China to celebrate the Australian Bicentenary. The beautiful gardens were landscaped according to principles going back to the 5th century.

Harbourside is an area that is popular for shopping, eating and sightseeing. Innumerable shops and restaurants proliferate through its wide promenades and offer so many options to visitors who come to the area. It also has a giant food court with over 40 outlets.

While visiting Darling Harbour, tourist should not fail to pay a visit to the Cockle Bay Wharf or the Maritime Museum. The Cockle Bay Wharf is a large complex and is one of the newest and most popular locations with its mix of budget and high end restaurants catering to all cross sections of travellers. The National Maritime Museum chronicle’s the maritime history of Australia through a huge variety of exhibits.

Visitors to the Darling Harbour area have a lot of options available for accommodation. There are high end, luxury hotels such as Crown Plaza, Four Points Sheraton and Medina Grand Harbourside. Other places to stay include Oaks Goldsbrough Apartments, Somerset Darling Harbour and Star City Hotel and Apartments.
