Lake Michigan offers excellent fishing for novices and experts alike. The best way to hit it is on one of the many Lake Michigan fishing charters.
Lake Michigan is the only one of the Great Lakes located entirely in the United States. All the others share shoreline with Canada, but Lake Michigan is pure USA. It is the fifth largest freshwater lake in the World and the largest one located in just one country. It is really one body of water with Lake Huron as it connects to it by a narrow strait. It has 1,640 miles of shoreline. The average depth is 279 feet with a maximum depth of 923 feet.
Four different states, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan surround the lake. In fact, the original name Michigan once referred only to the lake. It comes from an Indian word meaning, "Great Water." Obviously, the lake offers a variety of fishing opportunities. It is a home to many native species such as steelhead trout and brown trout. Like neighboring Lake Huron, it has been stocked with many new species such as salmon that have thrived in the cool waters of the lake.
Although much of the southern coast of the lake is bounded by highly industrial areas and large cities, the northern parts of the lake are lightly populated and home to a vigorous charter fishing industry. Lake Michigan Fishing Charters can be booked at a number of cities that border the northern part of the lake. The fishing charter is one of the best ways to experience Lake Michigan fishing.
A charter boat might charge around $800 dollars for a full day or until a limit is caught, but that is considerably less than the cost of maintaining your own fishing boat. The charter boats provide everything that you need in the way of equipment and the Captains are experienced. They know where the fish are located and can put you right on top of them. In such a massive body of water, this is one of the most important advantages of the charter.
Many of the Lake Michigan fishing charters have special deals for corporate clients. The fishing trips are offered as incentives or as special vacation packages for employees. Although a deposit is required to reserve your charter, you can get a full refund in case the weather causes a cancellation. Your only concern on a charter like this is the temptation to do it over and over again.
