When most people think of Disney holiday vacations, they mostly have mental images of Disney theme parks, exciting fun rides and cartoon carnivals. What is left mostly unknown to vacationers is that Disney also operate cruises (2 cruise ships) as well as 6 golf courses at the point of this writing. I will now dive into discussing about Disney golf courses vacations in Disney World.
The Magnolia, the Palm and the Oak Trial golf courses (strangely named after trees) are situated just across the Floridian Way from the huge Polynesian Complex. Lake Buena Golf Course is located at the Saratoga Springs near Downtown Disney Market place and it is across the lake from Pleasure Island Disney resort.
The Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines (why named after birds?) golf courses are part of the Bonnet Creek Golf Club near the Fort Wilderness camping grounds. These golf courses also come with driving ranges and putting greens as do all major golf courses.
The Oak Trail is a nine hole golf course usually used by beginners and golf novices. The other five Disney golf courses are designed for mid-handicap golfers. These golf courses are very popular and so that in order to avoid huge crowds, book to play golf on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays as there are less holiday vacationers on these week days. The crowds get bigger nearer weekends and waiting in the queue can be very frustrating especially when you are on a holiday vacation.
Peak golf playing season at Disney golf courses are from September to April as these are months when more people are on Disney holiday vacations, so it may be more prudent and sensible to play golf there during the down season. The off peak season is from May to August. I said more prudent because during off peak season, the rates are much less expensive to tee off. That will save you some spare cash to spend on something else when you are in Disney World.
Carts are needed at all Disney golf courses except at the Oak Trail course and the rentals of these carts are already included in the booking of greens fee. Advanced booking tee times may be reserved for 60 days in advance by Disney vacation resort guests staying in Disney owned resorts and 30 days booking in advance for day visitors booking with greens fee with major credit cards.
Guests staying in Disney World resorts get further special treatments in the form of longer advance booking of tee times, discounted greens fees, charge privileges and the transportation of golf clubs between facilities. These guests also get free round trip taxi rides between their hotels, resorts and the golf courses.
