Many consider Old Town San Diego the birthplace of California, as it was the site of the first permanent Spanish settlement in the state. Today, the area is a historic state park with many of the original buildings preserved as museums. Some of the more famous buildings in the area are the Casa de Estudillo, and the Whaley House, which is as well known for its ghosts as the history that surrounds it. There are also plenty of great restaurants and shopping in the area.
Located in San Diego Bay is the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Midway. It is a good opportunity for people to take a tour and get hands on experience with a ship that was one of the premier members of the fleet for 47 years. Touring a ship that saw action from the end of WWII through Desert Storm is an experience that no one is likely to forget.
