Further south the dramatic scenery gives way to quiet country lanes, an area steeped in history and cultures such as Stratford the birthplace of Shakespeare and the famous university towns of Oxford and Cambridge.

In the south west, the West Country offers its own attractions. The coast of Cornwall is famous for its great surf and is a mecca of UK surfing enthusiasts. The Cotswolds is a favourite with both UK and overseas visitors, known for its gentle hillsides and small villages, it is quintessentially english.
