A Guide to Shopping in London, England
Anyone who's been to London can testify that shopping can be both a blessing and a complete nightmare if you don't know where to go. Depending what you're looking for, you could plan your shopping trips days in advance or just go for them on a whim. However, without proper time management I can tell you, you'll never finish your shopping in time!
If you're looking for high end fashion and quality, fret not, London has it all. The range here is amazing, and the streets that sell them seem endless. Start of at the famous Bond Street in Mayfair which is home to the most elegant and high end shops in London. Bond Street is separated into old and new with shops such as Tiffany & Co, De Beers, Max Mara and Mont Blanc on the old side and Jimmy Choo, Sotheby's, Bulgari, Lavin, Fenwick and Mikimoto on the new bond street.
While at Bond Street, you might as well check out the whole of Oxford Street as well. Oxford Street compromises of Bond Street, Marble Arch, Oxford Circus and Tottenham court road. The north side of Oxford Street contains the upbeat tread stores such as Selfridges, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, BHS, River Island and Zara. Even the big music and phone stores such as HMV, O2 and T-mobile are available along this stretch.
However, central London isn't the only place to shop, and there're good deals on the side as well. The famous Portobello Market would be one to try out. Located 3km west of Marble Arch, Portobello is easy to reach by tube or by bus and is open six days a week with the antique market open on Saturdays.
Apart from the antiques, Portobello market sells a wide range of second hand goods, jewellery and fresh fruit and vegetables along its long seemingly never ending stall lines. For some of the other good local markets, head for those like Chapel market, brick lane market Southall market and even petticoat lane which is one of the oldest London Street Markets with over 1000 stalls.
Another kind of shopping in London that's an experience as well would be the departmental stores, and one in particular called Harrods. Appropriate dressing is required but Harrods is the crème of the crop and its well worth the seven floors of shopping bliss. Even the toilets are something to boast about.
