Barcelona Sights and Attractions
For the past few years, Barcelona has overtaken cities such as Paris and Athens as one of europe's top short stay destination, and if you've been lucky enough to visit the city, then you'll understand why. If you haven't had the fortune to grace the ever-popular streets of the Catalan Capital, then read on and find out what you're missing out on!

I suppose you could say that Barcelona has a very privileged position, geographically. Nestled on the banks of the Mediterranean sea, it's a very central location if you think of the size of Europe. Many low-cost flights arrive daily, as well as normal charter flights, and Terminal 4 at Barcelona airport is soon to be completed, showing no sign of this trend slowing. The Pyrenees mountains are very close, bordering Andorra and the South of France. You can take the new AVE fast train and be in Madrid in just over 2 hours, and ferries leave for the islands of Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca daily. Not to mention that the city has 2 beaches, green hills and great countryside at a stone's throw.

But what about the city itself? Why does Barcelona continue to rake the crowds in time and time again? Well, Barcelona as a city has everything you can want for, and more. Excellent architecture, amazing cuisine and restaurants, great nightlife, fun places for families, unrivalled shopping and the kind of people where you don't really feel out of place, or like a tourist - in Barcelona, you just fit in nicely.

The modern-day Barcelona has an abundance of options when it comes to choosing a place to stay. There are many hotels (and even more continue to be built), ranging from the sublime 5 star Arts hotel and the best views from the Gran hotel la Florida up on tibidabo mountain, to the more affordable 3 star hotels. However, the best option in my opinion is to stay in a rental apartment.

The last few years has seen a steep rise in this kind of accomodation, and fortunately the local council stepped in the regulate and ensure a standard. There are still apartments that are off the radar, so to speak, so make sure you check if your rental is registered as a tourist apartment with the council and the local tourist board. Most of the apartment rentals and also located in the very center of the city, too, which is an added advantage.
