Basilica di San Marco a Venzia – The most famous of all the churches, the cathedral of Venice boasts the famous Byzantine architecture. Located in St.Mark's Square, this beautiful church which is connected to the Doge's Palace, has been the seat of the Archbishop since 1807. Greek horses adorn the façade of the basilica but little do people who merely view the church from the outside know that they are nothing but fake bronze replicas of the real Greek horses of St.Mark, which are kept in the museum in the cathedral itself. The ceilings of the interior are covered in gold, bronze and various types of beautiful stones and gems which is probably where it gets its other affectionate name Chiesa d'Oro (Church of Gold).
The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari – Known also as the Frari, this church is one of the greatest churches in Venice and even has been given status of a minor basilica. Standing at the heart of the San Polo district on Campo, the church was fully built in 1396 with an Italian Gothic styled theme.
Santa Maria Della Salute – One of the most stunningly gorgeous photographed churches Italy along with the famous San Marco, this minor basilica is visible as one enters St.Marks Square from the water. Also known as the Salute for short, its strategic position placed on a narrow strip of land between the Grand Canal and the Bacino di San Marco make it a widely visited church in Venice for tourists.
Santa Maria dei Miracoli, Venice – Located in the sestiere of Cannaregio, this church made in the 1480's, is a prime example of early Venetian Renaissance. Known otherwise as the "marble church", its façade is out of colored marble, pilasters and a semicircular pediment.
Santi Giovanni e Paolo, Venice – Also known as San Zanipolo in the Venetian dialect, this is one of the largest churches in Venice and like a few has the status of a minor basilica. It is the principal Dominican church of Venice which was used for gatherings and preaching's to large groups and congregations.
San Zaccaria, Venice – St.Zacharias is a church in Venice dedicated to the father of John the Baptist, whose body supposedly lies here. Located in Campo San Zaccaria, it's toward the south east of St.Marks Basilica and is attached to a Benedictine monastery. A mix of Goth and Renaissance style, the present church was built between 1444 and 1515 but the first church on the site was actually built around the 9th century.
