One of the favorite city destinations in Western Europe noted for its romantic appeal is Paris; it sits on the banks of the river Seine and is also known as the City of Lights. Renowned for its modern art and breathtaking scenery a short stay in Paris is the ideal location for a romantic weekend break; it is almost guaranteed that a second, longer stay will be required.
It is famous for many famous buildings and locations; including famous sights like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe to name just two internationally famous landmarks. Visitors to Paris as well as its citizens can travel around Paris easily; there is a superb underground rail system called the Metro which is efficient and easy to understand.
It wouldn't be possible to visit this city without a trip to the top of the famous steel structure known as the Eiffel Tower; it provides stunning views from the top and is visible throughout most of the city. Illuminated in the evening, it is one of the most beautiful sights in the entire city; guided tours are available where the patriotic tour guides give you an in depth history and an insight to what it is to be French.
If you plan on spending some of your traveler's checks in Paris, then a trip down the Champs Elysees is an essential part of a trip; it will present you with many famous designer shops and good restaurants. This avenue may be select but it attracts large numbers of visitors daily; the exclusive five star hotels situated in this more select part of the city might be out of most visitors' price range.
If you are an art lover you will enjoy the Louvre, a truly amazing museum; with over 300,000 wonderful artistic works, you simply cannot see all of it in one day. The problem is a Paris short stay will only ever provide a glimpse of what can be seen here; with so many visitors (around eight million), sometimes it can be difficult seeing some of the famous works. What makes Paris special is the number of artists that have been attracted to this great capital; many of whom left large collections of their paintings here like Monet and Picasso.
The famous 19th century edifice built on Napoleons instructions, the Arc de Triomphe, is also in Paris; it provides visitors with a wonderful photo experience because it contains the names of every one of his generals. The Arc is the focal point of the city and contains an observatory to view the local area; in particular those obtained along the lanes that lead from it.
Of course this article can only give a small sample places to visit; there are plenty of others to keep you occupied but to make the most of your time, use one of the guided tours. Unfortunately, short stays in Paris can be demanding on visitors; a longer break here will be necessary if you really want to experience everything this wonderful city has to offer.
