Holidays in Aquitaine
Aquitaine comes on the southwestern part of France. It has Pyrenees mountain range along the Spanish border on south side and Atlantic Ocean on the western portion. It is among 26 regions of France and contains five administrative departments.

History of Aquitaine

The Aquitaine region has many prehistoric sites with earliest of the recorded settlements of non Celtic Aquitaine people. The region has long history which dates back further than the time of king Augustus of Rome. Number of artifacts unearthed from the various pre historic sites has earned the Aquitaine region the "Cradle of Arts" title. The Gallo-Roman remnants found at the place are enchanting for the lovers of archeology.

Landscapes and Destinations

Aquitaine region has a rather varying landscape and environment. The Atlantic coast offers the best beaches for surfing and other fun filled activities during summer. The best part is that fact that this coast line although has some of the finest beaches is also surrounded by some of the largest forests.

Bordeaux is the capital of Aquitaine. It is one of the best cities in France and most well known for producing finest of the wines which are highly treasured worldwide by wine lovers. The most well known wines from this area are Margaux, Medoc, Sauterne, and Saint-Emilion. The outskirts of Bordeaux and near the coast line there are a number of high quality resorts where one can have the best relaxing holiday time. It is among the best of the attractions offered by France. In the last decade the city of Bordeaux has progressed in trade and commerce and now ranks high on the priority of the people visiting France.

This natural set up of varied background is ideal for a lot of outdoor activities and an inspiration for adventurers. From various sea sports like surfing and diving, Aquitaine also has number of high quality golf courses which have produced many golfers of international repute.
