10 Fun Things to Do in Prague
Old world charm is what first comes to mind when considering Prague as a holiday destination. Some of its most famous attractions are steeped in history, including Prague Castle, which was built in the 9th century; the Old Town churches, houses, and palaces; the Jewish Quarter; and the Estates Theater. But that's not all there is to Prague. So what are ten fun things you can do in this city?

1. The number one fun thing to do in Prague is definitely to take in the sights and sounds of the bygone era through the landmarks that remain. In addition to those sites already mentioned, many visitors also make time to visit places such as the Old Town Hall and the Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, and the Museum of Communism.

2. The second fun activity would be making the rounds of the local theatres. There are a variety of inexpensive performances and classical music and jazz concerts that draw in crowds throughout the week. These would be listed in the city's daily English newspaper. In most cases, tickets can be booked in advance.

3. What trip is complete without shopping for local items? Czech glass is a famous product that is often snapped up in Prague. The local items to look out for include Bohemian crystal, porcelain, ceramics, Czech garnets, costume jewelry, handcrafted accessories, handcrafted tapestries, artwork replicas, photography, toys, and marionettes.

4. Take the children to visit Petrin Hill and its Observation Tower—a miniature Eiffel Tower. The area also has a playground and a mirror maze, which provides hours of fun and laughter.

5. Visit the museums. The National Museum holds historical and natural history collections, while the National Technical Museum allows for a more hands-on approach. Kids will be quite taken with the Toy Museum, which is home to antique toys, teddy bears, a variety of Barbie dolls, robots, and steam engines.

6. Take a trip to Prague Zoo. This is arguably one of the best zoos in all of Europe. The animals have plenty of room to roam about and the visitor trails are highly recommended.

7. Soak up the nightlife. Prague has options for swank cocktail bars and rocking discos. There are also a number of blues or jazz bars available offering some great performances in small uncrowded venues.

8. Try the beer. Czech beer is much appreciated around the world and is growing in popularity judging by the large volume that is being exported. Fresh unpasteurized Pilsner Urquell and Budjevicky Budvar are two beers that you should put on your list.

9. Sample the local cuisine. Traditional Czech food is designed to be paired with the local beer. Pork or beef are the most common offerings, but other options including chicken, duck, turkey, fish, rabbit, and lamb are also available.

10. Get romantic. Take a dinner cruise down the Vltava River and soak up the sights of the city by night or enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride around the Old Town and Jewish Quarter.
