Zagreb Travel Guide - Things to See
Zagreb is the capital and largest city of Croatia... on the banks of the Sava River. The city is comprised of the Upper Town (Old Town), and Lower Town (New Town).

Upper Town: The Old Town has many fine buildings from the 13th c... full of wonders with lots of green places to sit and rest. It's an excellent place to walk. Take the funicular to Upper Town.

The Mall: Three separate parks.

Trg Republika: The main square where witches were burned centuries ago. Take the elevator to the top of the Nebodar building for the view.

Dolac Market Place: The Public Market with red, green, blue umbrellas. Closes at noon. One can buy excellent local handicrafts here...and cheaply.

St. Stephen's Cathedral: Dates from 1217... with twin towers and portions of the old city walls... see the stained glass.

Stonegate ... only surviving original gate to Upper Town.

Mirogoj Cemetery: This really is a tranquil park and a popular gathering place for the living. The sound of a brass band indicates a funeral.

Lotrscak Tower: A canon is fired from here, daily, at noon.

Atelier of Ivan Mestrovic: This is the most popular attraction in Upper Town. It is the home of Croatia's best-known sculptor. He moved to NYC in 1940. 10-1, 5-7.

Ethnographic Museum: National costumes. 9-1, 5-7 Tue/Wed/Thu. Closed: Mon.

Mount Sljeme: Take the cable car to the top.

Marshal Tito Square: ... with the Croatian National Theatre.

Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters: Among others, a famous Durer.
